Our Hero

But his parents made him this way. They raised

him to expect the biggest and the most

of everything, bequeathed him life unfazed

by friction or unpleasantness, allowed

him endless indulgence of every crazy

whim, craving, will-o’-the-wisp. And now

he claims to be authentic, not just coasting

along in the triangle of power,

wealth, and privilege — he wants to be our

hero. (Not yet dead, already a ghost.)
