Paying the Rent on Time

I try to lead the life sublime

feel the flow

sing it low

I try to color in the lines

play it straight

watch and wait

I try to prove up in my prime

make some dough

see the glow

but all I’m doing

all I’m doing

all I’m doing

is paying the rent on time

yeah, paying the rent on time

I’ll never get rich but I can scratch my itch

and I’m paying the rent on time

I try to get up off the dime

say my peace

skip the grease

I try to dress up to the nines

call a cab

duck the tab

I try to rhythm, try to rhyme

tell the truth

raise the roof

but all I’m doing

all I’m doing

all I’m doing

is paying the rent on time

yeah, paying the rent on time

I’m making my pitch and you can quit your bitching

I’m paying the rent on time

hell yeah, paying the rent on time
