The Learning Curve

The truth is too simple. To comprehend

places in the sea where it never rains,

you’ll have to ask the shadow man again

why we’re so reluctant to use our brains.

Places in the sea where it never rains —

we want to know, but we’re afraid to ask

why we’re so reluctant to use our brains,

to focus on what counts, to stay on task —

we want to know but we’re afraid to ask.

It hurts because the learning curve is steep,

too. Focus on what matters. Stay on task,

the oracle demanded from the deep;

it hurts because the learning curve is steep.

We’re still counting on our fingers these days,

the oracle demanded from the deep

the need to disregard the latest craze.

We’re still counting on our fingers these days

the reasons why the sea is still tonight,

the need to disregard the latest craze,

the best alternative to fight or flight

and reasons why the sea is still. Tonight

you’ll have to ask the shadow man again

the best alternative to fight or flight —

the truth is too simple to comprehend.
